Lauren got me a pair of binoculars for my birthday (back in May), and we've been taking them out for stargazing in the area around our apartment. Of course, one of the first things that comes to mind after the initial "Cool! Space!" is "How can I take pictures of these awesome things I'm seeing". We took a few pictures through the optics by holding our phones up and trying to stay as still as we could, but it's less than ideal. To help improve things, I got a little device that clamps on to the eyepiece and holds your phone in the right orientation for you to take photos, and got this one of the moon.

It's not a great picture by any means, but it's a start. One of my coworkers is getting really into the guts of this stuff with Project Panoptes, looking for transiting exoplanets; while I'm not there yet, this seems like it could be an interesting hobby to start getting into.
